Tens of thousands of Iowans will be on the road this holiday weekend, but the national numbers are expected to be down from last Labor Day. Radio Triple-A is predicting 32-point-seven million travelers nationwide will be venturing at least 50-miles from home. That’s a drop from 33-million a year ago. Barb Buchholz, spokeswoman for the motor club’s Iowa office, says lingering concerns over the economy may be to blame.While travel numbers for Labor Day are down, Buchholz says a rebound is expected for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. She says gasoline prices won’t be keeping anyone home this weekend. The Iowa average is a dollar-36 a gallon, that’s down significantly from the dollar-51 of last year and it’s a nickel-a-gallon less than the national average. Of the predicted 32-point-seven million travelers this weekend, more than 27-million of them will travel by car.
