An eastern Iowa man, who’s been in federal custody nearly a year, is now facing new terrorism charges. Youssef Hmimssa was arrested in his Cedar Rapids apartment about two weeks after the attacks of September 11th. Federal agents reportedly found him through documents seized in the search for accused terror-mastermind Osama bin Laden. Hmimssa is originally from Morocco and was initially charged with document fraud, but now charges are much more severe. Federal prosecutors say he and four other suspects ran a “covert underground support unit for terrorist attacks” both inside and outside the U-S. They say Hmimssa is what’s called a “sleeper” agent in a secret cell of combatants. The feds stop short of saying he had anything to do with nine-eleven.
