The Northern Iowa Panthers opened their season with a 34-0 win over Wayne State of Michigan in the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. UNI coach Mark Farley was happy with the play of his team’s young defense. Receiver Marlys Mays made five catches, three for touchdowns, to lead the Panthers. Farley though would like a better effort from his offense, whichhe says made too many mistakes.
