The city of Manchester’s new airport welcome center will be showcased with a fly-in this weekend. The airport’s John Curran says events begin about four Sunday afternoon. He says they’ll cut a ribbon about five and the mayor will present honors to local businesses and contractors for getting the job done. Curran says the welcome center will be a good addition to the airport.Curran says it’ll give pilots a place to meet guests when they fly in, a rest room, a phone and a computer linked to the Internet so they can get Flight Service weather updates and other flying information. The airport welcome center was funded by a 42-thousand-dollar grant from the state of Iowa, a 12-thousand-dollar grant from Manchester Enterprises, and as much as 30-thousand in matching contributions from local businesses, contractors and merchants.
