The Iowa Court of Appeals waded into a family feud over where an 11-year-old girl should live.Jessica Lee Brown has lived with her grandparents in Pottawattamie County since her birth. Her dad, who was 19 when she was born, handed over custody to his parents. Two years ago, Randy Brown went to court to get permanent custody of his daughter. His mom says Randy took “a vacation” from parenting for a decade, and she and her husband fought to keep their granddaughter in their home. The Iowa Court of Appeals has ruled that the girl should live with her dad, saying it is best to place a child with a biological parent. But one of the Appeals Court judges wrote a stinging dissent, saying she didn’t understand why her colleagues wanted to disrupt Jessica’s life in favor of a parent who waited 10 years to assert his parental rights.
