Court approves mother’s request on visitation rights

The Iowa Court of Appeals has responded to a Clinton County mother’s request for a reduction in the hours her child’s grandparent may spend with her son.Paul Robbins, Jonathan Collin’s grandfather, was granted court-ordered visitation with his grandson on the first and third Sundays of each month — for a total of 16 hours a month. That visitation order came after Paul’s son, Brad — the boy’s father, quit observing his own court-ordered visitation schedule and disappeared. Crystal Collins, the boy’s mother, went to court and argued such extensive visitation with his grandfather was not in her son’s best interests and since both she and her husband work, the 16 hours a month ate into their own weekend family time. The Appeals Court agreed, and adopted the grandparent visitation schedule Crystal recommended — just six hours a month.
