Iowa State University has a full day of events planned to remember the attacks on America a year ago, but organizer Laura Bestler-Wilcox says much of the aim is letting people express how they feel about nine-eleven. Like last year, the Memorial Union will have a room where news is on all day. in the center of the sprawling campus, the ISU bell-tower will ring out for a mid-day observance. On the north Campanile lawn in front of Curtis Hall there will be a noon color guard and short concert on the carillon. And the day will end at eight P-M, with another outdoor observance for anyone who cares to join. There will be a candlelight vigil by Lake Laverne with music. Inside at nine following the candlelight, Bestler-Wilcox says the ballroom will be open for those who want to do bible reading or other spiritual activities. Iowa State’s “Celebrating the Human Spirit Day” is actually part of a six-day “Cyclone Spirit Week” that promotes volunteerism and community on campus.
