A Kansas City, Kansas, man who appealed his Iowa drug conviction has lost at the Appeals Court level. Charles Harris argued he was subjected to “unreasonable search and seizure” by a Des Moines policeman who was investigating a fight in an alley on June 8th, 2000. The cop saw Harris run away from a group of people in an alley, and went in pursuit. Harris went into a nearby home, and the cop followed, finding a bag of crack cocaine there. The Appeals Court sided with the policeman, who the judges said was within his rights to follow Harris into the home without a warrant as the cop suspected Harris of being involved in a street fight.
