The Iowa State Cyclones are nationally ranked for the first time since the 1981 regular season. The Cyclones are 21st in the Associated Press poll after rallying from a 24-7 halftime deficit to edge Iowa 36-31. For the Cyclones it marked their fifth straight win in the series and their third straight victory in Kinnick Stadium. Cyclone coach Dan McCarney says they weren’t trying the “rope-a-dope” in falling behind early to Iowa and Florida State. McCarney says they haven’t won three straight in Iowa City since Grover Cleaveland was President. He says with their schedule, staying ranked will be a chore, but they’ll do all they can to stay healthy and win as many games as they can.McCarney says even with a good start to the season there is plenty of room for improvement. He says they’re not even close to where they can be yet.
