A man elected last week to the Lake Mills School Board will not be able to serve after it was learned he is not a U-S citizen. Juan Carlos Ramirez had not achieved full status as an eligible elector before last week’s election. Ramirez was the only candidate who filed for the district two board position. The Mexico native moved to Lake Mills in November 2000 to become the safety director at Fleetguard. Elections officials did not learn that Ramirez was not eligible until election day afternoon, but Winnebago County Auditor Bob Paulson and County Attorney Robert Cooper recommended the election be completed as scheduled. The school board has declared the seat as vacant, and can fill the seat either by appointment or declaring a special election.
