The Davenport City Council put some teeth into its dog ordinance last night, shortly after a pit bull bit off part of a letter carrier’s finger.Alderman, who have been fretting for weeks about vicious dogs, gave dog catchers the right to pick up and impound unlicensed dogs running loose. It will cost their owners plenty to get them back. Aldermen are still considering other measures. The vote came just hours after the tip of a letter carrier1s finger was bitten off when he was attacked by one of two unlicensed pit bulls at a central Davenport home. He’ll undergo plastic surgery. Police impounded the dog and issued a citation to its owner.
