District play shifts into high gear during the third week of the high school football season. Class 1A fourth-ranked Underwood opens the District Eight race against perennial power Bedford. Underwood coach Barret Glasnap says several teams feel they can make a run at the district crown.Glasnap says a loss this early puts your back against the wall and he says the best thing to do is to win all your games and not worry about it.In class 4A it’s the battle of West Des Moines, as second-ranked Valley plays Dowling. Valley coach Gary Swenson says emotion becomes even a bigger factor in rivalry games. He says that emotion can lead to more mistakes and cost you a ballgame. Swenson says the Tigers want a quick start as they’ve historically started slow against Dowling. Dowling has started the season at 0-2 after winning back-to-back state titles.
