Experts say at least 70 percent of those who’re arrested for cooking or dealing meth have a child. Janice Lane works in Ankeny at a recovery center for adolescents, and she’s not surprised by the statistics.Lane says most of the children in those meth-influenced homes end up on drugs themselves.Lane says the girls in those homes are at higher risk of being used as drug runners or as prostitutes. She says once the kids get involved in that type of lifestyle, it’s hard to break the cycle. Not only are kids exposed to the dangerous chemicals when meth is made in their home, Lane says the kids are severely neglected, rarely having their basic needs of food, clothing and shelter provided by their parents.
