Iowa Congressman Leonard Boswell says he’s “leaning toward” providing more federal help to the nation’s ailing airline industry. Boswell says, “we don’t want our airlines going down.” Congress provided a 15-billion dollar bailout package last year to help the airlines recover after the September 11th attacks. Now, the airlines are asking for tax breaks, reimbursement for security measures and an extension of government-backed terrorism insurance.Boswell, a member of the aviation subcommittee of the House Transportation Committee, heard the appeal directly from airline executives at a hearing yesterday.Boswell says he’s “leaning toward” doing something for the industry because he wants to “keep ’em flying.”
