A state legislative oversight committee will review some of the rules for large-scale livestock operations after concerns were raised in Dickinson County. Several residents attended a meeting of the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors this week, complaining they didn’t get enough notice about a hog lot proposed near the Iowa Great Lakes. State Representative Greg Stevens, a democrat from Milford, says lawmakers need to take another look at the rules.He says one of the things they’re going to look at is the permit approval process for hog lots. Stevens says they want to be sure the public is informed of proposed livestock operations.He says they’ve heard reports that some plans were filed for proposed livestock operations, and then the developers put them in other places or didn’t follow the plan they filed. Stevens says there’s no way to enforce the plans.
