A central Iowa race driver is both discouraged and thrilled after his finish at the Kansas Speedway last weekend. 25-year-old Eric Jones of Granger started at the back of the Busch Series pack in Kansas City and got in a wreck on the fourth lap, which trashed the car’s aerodynamics. He says the number-77 Ford was “a little evil the rest of the race.” While he started in 38th place out of 43 cars, Jones finished 26th for a 16-thousand dollar prize. While he was up against several more-experienced Winston Cup racers, Jones says Saturday’s “Mr. Goodcents 300” race didn’t really offer him much of an education in NASCAR racing. Jones says he was taken to his first race at the age of two WEEKS as his father was a kart driver, while his first kart competition came at age eight. Jones has raced in five Craftsman Truck Series races this year and says the Busch Series stock cars don’t vary the much from the pickup trucks. Jones is slated to race in the Craftsman Truck Series in Las Vegas in two weeks.
