The Democrat candidate running in western Iowa’s heavily-Republican Congressional district is stressing his appeal across party lines. Paul Shomshor, a C-P-A and former Council Bluffs City Council member, faces an uphill challenge in a district that has about 58-thousand more registered Republican than Democrat voters.Shomshor says Iowans are independent minded and willing to look beyond party registration. And Shomshor says there are plenty of registered Independents in the district.Shomshor says his Republican opponent, Steve King, is way too conservative.King, a state Senator from Kiron, contends he fits the district. He says every time he’s been on the ballot, he’s won by a more than two-to-one margin, which the exception of the four-way primary.King and Shomshor made their comments on Iowa Public Television.
