It’s national fire-prevention week, and Manchester fire chief Jack Klaus says local firefighters are working this week with school kids. The chief says they work with departments from West Delaware County, including Masonville, Ryan, Greeley and Dundee, with kids in kindergarten through third grade to raise awareness that kids and matches are a bad mix. Klaus says the firefighters will be holding a “flamboyant” public-education gathering Thursday night, with treats and genuine fire. The chief says they’ll offer fire-extinguisher training which includes watching a video but also watching the firemen start some fires, so users can get experience triggering the device and putting out a fire properly. The chief also says families should make their own home evacuation plan in case a fire does occur. Thursday night’s public event will be from six to 7-30 at the fire station.
