From northeast Iowa, Buchanan County voters have okayed a one-percent local option sales tax for school improvements. More than 36-hundred voters cast ballots Tuesday, passing the measure by 64-to-36 percent. The tax is expected to generate more than one-point-one million dollars a year to be divided among ten public school districts which have students residing within the county. The tax will be in effect for ten years, starting July first of 2003.
