A spokesman for the Iowa Public Airports Association says Iowa’s aviation industry is still struggling to recover from the 9/11 attacks. Michael Salamone the secretary/treasurer of the Iowa Public Airports Association says survival is difficult for the crop dusters, charter companies and other small businesses at the state’s airports. The state’s airline industry is asking Iowa legislators to return to the airports the seven million dollars in taxes that’re generated yearly at the airports. Salamone says in the post-9/11 world, Iowa is the ONLY state in the nation that cut funding for airports. The Iowa Public Airports Association held its annual convention this week in Ames.
