Two men have been arrested in a string of arson fires in Story County. Ames police spokesman Jim Robinson says one more fire broke out last night. About 1 A-M they got word an abandoned farmhouse was on fire, just north of Story County, in Hamilton County, and Ames police as well as Story Sheriff’s deputies went. Commander Robinson says they found two young men nearby watching the fire. He says the police had been looking for these two as suspects in the numerous fires in Ames and surrounding Story County. The two were arrested. Commander Robinson says they’re brothers, both 18 years old — Kyle and Kevin Sloan of Ames. He says investigators brought the two to the Ames Police Department and they admitted there that they’re responsible for the arson fires in the area. Robinson says he doesn’t know yet whether the two suspects have prior criminal records. Robinson says they’re looking into their history, and as of Saturday Ames police have filed five second-degree arson counts against the brothers, and story county sheriff’s office has filed six counts of second-degree arson and seven counts of third-degree arson.
