The committee that’s working on a realignment of Iowa’s court system has planned meetings at 16 Iowa communities later this month to get public input. David Oman is co-chair of the committee. He says the last time this was done was in 1970 and the committee is halfway through its work and ready to hear from Iowans. Oman says the meetings will also give the committee a chance to explain what it’s doing. He says there’s been some misunderstanding based on last year’s proposal to consolidate some of the county clerk services. Oman says this is not the same thing, and simply involves realigning the court districts. Oman says the realignment probably won’t save a lot of money, but says it will hopefully make the system better for judges and citizens.Oman says there’s a shortage of judges in some areas and by adjusting the caseloads, they should be able to be more equitable statewide. He says the public input is an important part of the process. The meetings begin November 11th, to find a location in your community, visit:www.judicial.state.ia
