The Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Department of Energy are holding a workshop this week to talk with architects and builders about using solar energy. D-N-R spokesperson Jennifer Moehlmann says they want shed some light on myths about solar energy. She says there’s a misconception that solar energy doesn’t work in Iowa. Moehlmann says the types of sun-powered photovoltaic or p-v systems has increased. She says cost still is an issue, but says that p-v power can be cost-effective is there’s not already an electric hook up to the site. Moehlmann says it does take some commitment to renewable resources for those who’re hooked to power lines to go solar. The workshop is Wednesday and Thursday in Ames.
