While nearly all the candidates who’ll win today’s elections are affiliated with either the Democrat or Republican parties, independent voters outnumber the ranks of the two major parties and where their votes fall will determine the outcome of many races. State election officials say over 525-thousand Iowans are registered Democrats and over 580-thousand Iowans are registered Republicans. More Iowans, though, register to vote but don’t list a party affiliation. There are almost 670-thousand Independent voters in Iowa. The fledgling Green party has a few Iowa members. One-thousand-750 have registered as Green.
