A soldier from eastern Iowa who was killed during the Vietnam War was buried earlier today in a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington, D.C. Then-19-year-old Army Sergeant Robert “Chuck” O’Hara, from the Clinton County town of Lost Nation, was flying with six other soldiers in a helicopter that crashed in bad weather in South Vietnam in February of 1969. O’Hara’s body wasn’t found and family members hoped for years he may’ve survived, been taken captive and could someday return home. Special forensics teams made several trips to Vietnam over the past few years and in 2001, using D-N-A technology, matched remains found at the crash site with O’Hara and two of his crewmates. All three were buried with honors. O’Hara had been one of eight boys in a family of 11 children. His brother, Greg, still lives in Lost Nation and attended the service, saying it brings the family closure after more than 33 years.
