Central and eastern Iowans may see search planes flying over their cities today as part of a Civil Air Patrol search and rescue drill. Captain Doug Jansen is overseeing the training.He says they’ll be doing basic search and rescue training. He the training sessions keep everyone sharp. He says a large part of the training is getting the communications coordinated between the ground and the air. Jansen says they’ll have seven planes in the air and around 80 volunteers on the ground. He says they try to hold a training exercise quarterly, as they get three or four search and rescue calls a month. Jansen says the volunteers are proud of their ability to help Iowans.He says they’ve been very successful in finding missing people this year. The training session will last until 5 p.m. today, with the central Iowa headquarters at the Ames airport and the eastern Iowa headquarters at the Davenport airport.
