An Iowan is touring with “Shockwave,” an unusual stage production that celebrates the talents of young musicians and singers. Peter Connell, an Orange City native and recent University of Iowa graduate, says the show is difficult to describe.The 22-year-old Connell plays the trombone, the euphonium — a kind of small tuba — and he plays percussion. He graduated from the U-of-I in May with a degree in trombone performance. This is his first “real gig” and he’s been touring with the show since it opened in New York state about a month ago. It’ll run through April of 2003. Connell tells about his role in “Shockwave.” He sings, dances and has a couple of feature tunes.Connell has already been on-stage with the show in a half-dozen states, all across the northeast and midwest. He says it’s a real treat to be back in his home state to perform.”Shockwave” was created by Iowa native James Mason, of Cedar Rapids, as a follow-up to the Tony- and Emmy-award winning “Blast!” which toured Iowa in 2001. Another young Iowa man is performing in the show — Adam Robertson of Cedar Rapids, who plays trumpet and harmonica.”Shockwave” opened last night in Des Moines and has matinee and evening shows today. It has already played Cedar Rapids and will be coming in the next few months to Sioux City, Mason City and Ames.
