Geese, by the thousands, are returning to DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge near Missouri Valley in western Iowa. Refuge Assistant Manager Mindy Sheets says there are about 50-thousand geese at the refuge now, but she says that number will grow steadily when the weather gets colder in South Dakota and the birds migrate south. Sheets says there are still hundreds of thousands of snow geese to the north. Sheets says the peak at DeSoto is usually about half-a-million geese. She says it’s a spectacular sight to see.
