A Mason City teen is kicking off his campaign to be the city’s next mayor. 18-year-old Richard Dedor is a 2002 Mason City High School graduate and currently attends North Iowa Area Community College. Dedor has been interested in local politics, serving on the Mason City 2010 Strategic Planning Committee, being a volunteer with the Youth Task Force, and participating twice in Youth Government Day…once as city administrator and once as mayor. Dedor says he wants to be mayor because the city is in a good position currently and the local government needs to get younger people involved. Dedor enters the race to fill the vacancy that will be made when current mayor Bill Schickel resigns on December 1st as he prepares to take the District 13 seat in the Iowa House. The Mason City City Council has set February 25th as the date of a special election.
