Iowans will have a chance to talk foreign policy with two members of the U-S State Department tomorrow (Thursday) evening at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Steve Carpenter, the public information officer at Kirkwood, says the two will be part of a State Department town meeting. He says they hold these meetings occasionally around the country to talk about foreign affairs and to engage public discussion of the issue. He says each official will make a presentation, and then take questions. One is Robert Downes, the Division Chief of Multilateral Trade Affairs, who’ll talk about international trade. The other speaker, Christopher Murray, will talk about “Keeping Bad Stuff from Bad People.” Carpenter says it’s a timely topic. He says Murray will talk about discouraging the spread of different types of weapons and threats against people in different parts of the world. Carpenter says the town meeting begins at 6:30 and is free and open to the public.
