Today’s supposed to be homecoming day for Iowa-born astronaut Peggy Whitson — but the party plans may have to wait. The Ringgold County native says it’s no big deal if she and two cosmonauts have to spend a couple more days in the cozy confines of the space shuttle Endeavour. The quarters are a bit closer then where they’ve spent the last six months — the International Space Station. Whitson and the Russians have been in orbit 181 days and may go longer. Forecasters say there’s a chance of clouds and rain around the landing site in Florida which could delay this afternoon’s scheduled landing — around 2:48 central time. Tomorrow’s Florida forecast is even worse. NASA says Endeavour has enough fuel and supplies to stay in orbit until Sunday. If need be, the backup landing site in California would be used before then.
