Iowa’s newest community is taking steps to ban certain types of food. Last week, the Vedic City council approved the first reading of an ordinance that outlaws non-organic food in grocery stores and restaurants. The new town has no grocery stores and only one restaurant. The ordinance -will- allow residents to eat non-organic foods that they bring in from elsewhere. Vedic City was incorporated in July 2001 and has since passed several unconventional laws, including making the town’s official language “ancient Sanscrit” and all buildings must face east to follow Vedic architecture rules.
