Based on the decades-old trilogy by J-R-R Tolkien, the second movie in the “Lord of the Rings” series opens at one-past midnight (Wednesday morning) in select theaters across the state. The movies immerse us in the fantasyland of Middle Earth, as noble creatures called hobbits embark on a journey into a land of fire. With the help of dwarves, elves, humans and wizards, they battle all sorts of vile enemies. Andy Diercks, manager of Indianola’s Paramount Theatre, says the story has a little of everything — love, war, tragedy and comedy.Diercks expects a sell-out crowd for the midnight show, and many will come in costume, and he says they always encourage that. Diercks says he always screens movies before showing them to make sure they’re intact and ready for viewing. With this screening, he took particular delight as he loved the first film, and found the second one a stupendous follow-up. He says “The Two Towers” was hands-down better than the first movie “The Fellowship of the Ring” and he adds, the three hours flew by like — an hour and a half.
