Frist’s election ended the firestorm of the past few weeks that was sparked by now-former Republican leader Trent Lott of Mississippi making comments which some took as being racist. Grassley says Frist will heal the wounds that were opened during the month. Grassley says Frist gives Republicans a “fresh face” that’ll overcome insinuations of partisanship that flowed when Lott was the party’s leader.
