Iowa’s leader was a cheerleader last night in a rally in South Florida. On Monday, he slept all day in his hotel room with a bout of the flu, but last night Governor Tom Vilsack was on stage cheering on some 20-thousand Iowa Hawkeye fans in a rally that’s a prelude to tonight’s Orange Bowl. The Hawks face the University of Southern California and Vilsack tried to make the traditional bowl game bet with California Governor Gray Davis, Davis didn’t return his call. Vilsack doesn’t think he’d have to pay up on an Orange Bowl bet anyway. Vilsack, though, complains that the Govenror of Idaho did return his call, and now Vilsack has to pay up because Iowa State lost to Boise State in the Humanitarian Bowl. Vilsack predicts a high scoring Orange Bowl that Iowa will win because of superior fan support. The trip is a vacation for the Vilsack family, but the governor is conducting some business too. Last night’s rally was held at the Miami Convention Center, and drew thousands upon thousands of black-and-gold clad Iowa fans.
