The man injured in a Cedar Rapids crash last night has died. Cedar Rapids police say 22-year-old Nick Jones of Oskaloosa was the passenger in a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Jason De Vries, also of Oskaloosa. The report says De Vries was driving drunk around eleven last night when he lost control and smashed into some trees on the edge of a cemetery. De Vries was not hurt. Jones, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle. He was airlifted to University Hospitals in Iowa City and died at 9:30 this morning. De Vries is charged with drunk driving and vehicular homicide. He’s been released from the Linn County Jail and a preliminary hearing’s set for January 21. Both Jones and DeVries were students at the University of Iowa.
