Iowa’s only new representative took the oath of office as the 108th Congress was sworn in today in Washington, D.C. Steve King, a republican from Kiron, was sworn in at noon Iowa time. He calls it a tremendous opportunity to serve his country and the people of Iowa.King, who had been a state senator, says he’s aware of the the responsibility he now faces. He says it’s a tremendous feeling to step into the House chambers and serve in the same body that Abraham Lincoln did. King says he feels the weight of the office, but says it’s weight he’s ready to lift. One of the first issues King faces is the President’s economic stimulus plan. King supports it.He says we need to get more money into the hands of the people who earn it so they can spend it and get the economy going. King represents the new fifth district that includes 32 counties in western Iowa.
