Published reports in Iowa City and on the internet say Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz has interview for the head job with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars. Ferentz spent six years as an NFL assistant before joining Iowa in 1999. Ferentz was asked about the possibility he would return to the NFL in a news conference prior to the Orange Bowl, and he dismissed the idea. He said those rumors are started by the internet and media and by other coaches to use it against him in recruting.Ferentz, who led Iowa to a record 11 wins this past season, said he was happy now in Iowa City. He said he’s never had a more enjoyable job then he now has.Ferentz’s Orange Bowl opponent, USC coach Pete Carroll, told the media prior to the game that Ferentz was well respected in NFL circles and would make a good NFL coach.
