Iowa is already a national leader in the number of taxpayers who file returns electronically, but the numbers are expected to rocket up this year, as e-filing will be free through the I-R-S. Donna Migazzi is spokeswoman for the Internal Revenue Service district that covers Iowa. She says Iowa has always had a good electronic filing rate, but she says the cost may’ve been keeping some from using the service.The free electronic filing program is being called Free File. Migazzi says more than one-million Iowans filed federal tax returns last year, and about half of them e-filed. She expects that number to grow this year.Out of one-point-three million federal taxpayers in Iowa, last year 700-thousand e-filed. Migazzi says Iowans who hire C-P-As to do their taxes may still have to pay for the electronic service.While it can take weeks to get a refund check by filing a traditional paper return, Migazzi says e-filers often get their refund checks within ten days.
