Legislature approves 20 million to restore cuts

The first bill to make its way out of the Iowa Senate provides about 20-million more dollars for state operations, including money to ensure prison guards aren’t furloughed. Republican Senator Jeff Lamberti of Ankeny says safety was a concern, so the bill ensures that drug agents and other investigators aren’t furloughed, either.Another big chunk of change is for child welfare programs, including nearly two-million dollars for the state’s adoption subsidy program. He says they’ve attempted to work with the governor to identify the areas of child and family services that need more money.The bill also provides 165-thousand dollars to keep the 30-bed substance abuse treatment facility in Mount Pleasant open through June 30th.
