The Iowa Insurance Division has tagged this week its second annual “Get Smart About Insurance Week.” Spokesman Scott Kinney says it’s a time to be sure all your vital areas are covered. He says it’s not about getting you to buy insurance, it’s about getting you to be sure the coverage you have is appropriate. He says most Iowans probably only think about insurance when it comes time to pay the premiums. He says if you’ve had a major life change like buying a new car or adding onto your home, you may need to revamp your coverage. Kinney says an insurance review should start with a call to your agent. He says call and talk about any changes and see if your coverage meets those changes, and he says it’s a good time to check into raising your deductibles to save money.Kinney says an insurance review should become a routine annual event. He says it’s simple to do and he says it should be just like changing the battery in your smoke detector once a year.Consumers with insurance questions may contact the Iowa Insurance Division toll free at 877-955-1212 or visit the division on the web at www.iid.state.ia.us.
