The “Iowa Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame Museum” is moving closer to becoming a permanent fixture in the state. Museum organizers opened the facility in Arnolds Park near the Iowa great lakes to visitors for the first time this past weekend as part of the Okoboji Winter Games. Iowa Rock-N-Roll Music Association executive director Doris Welle says a few hundred people took advantage of the sneak peek. She says it isn’t completed and open daily yet, but she says they will open year-round in May and will have a grand opening celebration on Memorial Day weekend. She says they will give you a tour if you’re in the area. As the name implies, the project has two purposes…one is a museum to preserve the history of the music in Iowa, including the ballrooms. Welle says it’s also showcases the members of the Iowa Rock-N-Roll Music Hall of Fame. It features the musicians, DJ’s and radio stations that’ve been inducted into the Hall of Fame along with memorabilia. Welle says the museum gives us a glimpse of an important part of our history, and how important music has been to our state. The museum has been in the works for the past five years.
