President Bush, in his State of the Union speech this past week, talked about making hydrogen-powered cars commonplace in America within a generation, but Senator Tom Harkin says Bush wants to start in the wrong direction.Harkin says he’s been pushing hydrogen-power for a dozen years, and he applauds the President for mentioning it. But Harkin objects to the President’s call for spending over one billion dollars on additional research. Harkin says there’s been enough research, and folks know what works. Harkin says it’s time for the federal government to provide tax incentives to businesses that start manufacturing hydro-cars. And Harkin says the federal government needs to do what it can to foster businesses that’ll service hydrogen-powered cars.
