Quad Cities employees sue saying building isn’t healthy

State workers in the Quad Cities are suing over what they say is a “sick building.” Workers filed eight separate lawsuits this week against the owner of a building that houses corrections department workers, saying mold, water and sewage leaks go unrepaired and have caused serious health problems. One woman who had a New York doctor test for toxic mold says she suffered sinus troubles, chronic fatigue and a list of other symptoms that had her diagnosed for a time with multiple sclerosis. A former security guard says he thinks his four years working in the Davenport building caused seizures, memory and eyesight problems and brain tumors. The state occupational health and safety agency fined the department that employs the workers, after high levels of mold were found in the building, but there are no official standards for those, and the owner who leases the building to the state agency says the tenant is responsible.
