Fire struck a northwest Iowa community Thursday. Fire crews from eight communities helped battle the blaze that broke out in downtown Hawarden about 3:30 Thursday afternoon. Officials say it appears the fire started in the basement of an auto supply store and spread to a neighboring grocery store. The cause of the fire is unknown. No injuries are reported. Damage is still being assessed.
