Iowa City man charged with identity theft

What’s in a name? Plenty of money, apparently, and a possible prison term for an eastern Iowa man. Steven Smith, of Iowa City, is charged with stealing the identity of an Anamosa man who has the same name. The victim reportedly applied for a line of credit at Best Buy and found an account was already open and 50-thousand dollars was past due. Smith was to be sentenced last Friday but the proceedings went long and will resume on February 18th.
