Fundraiser underway for museum that honors Iowa Vets

A fundraising campaign is underway to honor the Iowans who fought for our country in various military campaigns. Bob Holliday is the president of the board that oversees the Iowa Goldstar Museum, which is conducting the “Saluting Iowa’s Heroes” fundraising campaign.He says the museum, which began in 1985, collects, preserves and interprets artifacts from Iowa veterans dating back to the Civil War. Holliday says they have a goal of four-point-two million dollars to expand the museum. He says the museum simply needs more space right now, and right now as they’re only able to display 25-percent of the items they have available. He says this is a statewide campaign, as evidenced by the fact that Iowa’s three living governors are co-chairs of the fundraising effort. The goal for the is to have the four-point-two dollars raised and construction underway by the 20th anniversary of the museum in 2005. He says they want to quadruple the size of the existing museum at its current site at Camp Dodge near Johnston.
