A vacationing Iowa woman’s in for a big surprise when she comes home. Urbandale police spokesman Sergeant Dave Disney says the woman had hired a handyman in the past, and asked him to watch her house while she was away. An out-of-town relative stopped by to check on their mother’s house and spotted things inside that made them suspicious. The relative called police, who went to take a look. Urbandale officers found items associated with making methamphetamine, and information that led them to another house, in Des Moines, where they found a working meth lab. Police arrested 46-year-old Gary Dean Harris of Des Moines and charged him in connection with the items found at his own residence and the place he’d been house-sitting. He’s charged with making meth, having “precursor” substances, and child endangerment since there were young children at the house in Des Moines where police found the working meth lab. Bond is set at 182-thousand dollars.
