More Iowa soldiers are going on federal active duty. Colonel Robert King with the National Guard says the call came today for two more units, the 2133rd Transportation company, headquartered in Centerville with a subordinate detachment in Muscatine totaling 160 soldiers, and Company “A” of the 109th Medical Battalion with 70 soldiers based in Iowa City. With this latest callup, about 1800 Iowa National Guard soldiers and Airmen are on active, and with another 700 on alert, by this time next week we could have 2500 citizen-soldiers on active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Both units will be heading for Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, for active-duty mobilization.
