The relocation of an historic bridge in the eastern Iowa town of Hale is underway. Crews met along the Wapsipinicon River Tuesday to start dismantling the 1889-era bridge. It’s the only three-span bow bridge remaining in Iowa and is listed on the National Register. It’s being taken apart and moved nearby temporarily. A modern bridge will be built in its place by September. Jones County historical preservationists say the old bridge will eventually be reassembled either in a Hale park, on the Grant Wood trail or in the town of Olin.
